8. Tanzania

After Sultan Khalid bin Barghash replaced the pro-British Sultan Hamad bin Thuwaini in August 1896, the UK and Zanzibar engaged in the shortest war in recorded history. The British requested that Khalid resigns from his position after refusing to acknowledge this succession.

Following his rejection, British forces shelled his palace for 38 minutes before raising the white flag and allowing Khalid to flee to German East Africa, where they installed Sultan Hamud as the leader of a sham government.
