Sundowns are new Carling Black Label Cup Champions
Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed Orlando Pirates to secure the Carling Black Label Cup title.
Both sides made changes to their starting lineups which did duty against AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs. Soweto Derby bragging rights marked the second semi-final. After missing out on the MTN8, Sundowns wanted to assert their Premier Soccer League dominance by lifting this trophy
In Earlier encounters Orlando Pirates defeated Kaizer Chiefs 5-4 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes to secure a place in the final of the Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday. Mamelodi Sundowns booked their place in the final of the Carling Black Label Cup with a comfortable 3-0 win over AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium on Saturday
Siphelele Mkhulise scored the game’s first goal for Sundowns in the 23rd minute as they capitalized on Pirates losing a man. Ten minutes later, Sundowns increased their lead when Grant Kekana, an unusual face, appeared in the Pirates’ penalty area to double his team’s lead. For Sundowns, the chance to face Pirates couldn’t have come at a better time as they tried to exact revenge for their humiliating loss in the MTN8 semi-final a few weeks prior.
Mamelodi Sundowns were already heavy favorites to have enough in their arsenal to win the one-day championship because the format usually favored clubs with the greatest depth and talent.
Rain did not stop the emphatic fans from coming to the stadium and enjoying a day full of football. A buzz it was at FNB Stadium but forget not, the Carling Black Label Cup now belongs to Mamelodi Sundowns.
