The duchess revealed herself on a podcast with Mariah Carey, a musician who is also of mixed heritage.

“I had read this Halle Berry story, and they were asking her how she felt about being treated as a mixed-race woman in the world, ” the woman remarked.

She replied, “Well, your experience through the world is how people regard you,” in answer.

She claimed that because of her deeper skin tone, she was regarded as a black woman rather than a mixed-race woman.

“And I believe that since we have light skin, it is quite different for us because Nobody treats you like a black woman. You are not regarded as a woman of color. You sort of fall between the two.

“I mean, the only time my attention has been greater on my race in my life is since I began dating my husband.

My understanding of what it meant to be treated as a black woman gradually improved. I had been treated like a mixed woman up to that point. And a lot of things changed.
